The Bonnyville PONTIACS are extremely pleased to announce that defenseman Ben MACK has committed to the University of Wisconsin – Superior (Yellow Jackets) for the Fall of 2016.
The 20-year-old gritty defenseman played 35 games this past season for the PONTIACS accumulating 9 points and 111 penalty minutes.
“As an organization we couldn't be happier for Ben and his family as he has worked extremely hard and has been such a competitor for us this past season,” said Head Coach and General Manager Rick SWAN. “It's great to see him have this opportunity and he is very deserving of it. UWS is getting a great hockey player. Ben is an excellent skater who excels in a 'shut down role.' He is hard to play against and has a physical edge which allows him to play against the other team's best players every night. Absolutely one of the premier defenders (defending) in the league with offensive skills which will allow him to play both offensive and defensive roles. Ben comes to the rink every day to get better. In a 'nut-shell' Ben is a 'Meat and Potatoes,' gritty defenseman with a high compete level, good speed. We wish him the best of luck as he steps into the next chapter in his life as a student athlete.”
The University of Wisconsin – Superior Yellow Jackets won the NAIA national championship in 1976 and the NCAA Division III national championship in 2002.
Ben MACK is the 29th player from the Bonnyville PONTIACS since 2014 to move on to college hockey (NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 3, C.I.S. and A.C.A.C.).
