A: No, the expectation is to ensure the player has food they can prepare for breakfast and lunch; players may also fend for themselves for supper at times so cooking supper for them 7 days a week isn’t required. It’s required to have food available for them and leftovers if your not able to cook every night. We encourage lots of communication with your players to know what they like and their comfortability in the kitchen. Having pre-game meals prepared is also encouraged.
A: Yes, the team establishes a set of rules and guidelines for the players to follow but that doesn’t mean they trump any of the rules that you may have in your household. Our players are told to follow any household rules along with team rules again this fall back to proper communication at the beginning.
A: The team does its best to ensure players without vehicles have multiple options for players living with or around them have vehicles. Billets are not required to provide transportation as the team will ensure they handle that through ride sharing and carpooling.
A: Our expectation is not to have filet mignon and salmon every night. The ask is to have nutritious food available for the players and that a conversation on likes and dislikes occurs early on.
A: Being a billet can be very rewarding, and it’s not intended to be a new stress on you or your finances. Players require food, a private furnished bedroom and a household to become a part of. Items like toiletries or personal items are not the responsibility of the Billet to provide.
A: Although we cannot force our players to be contributing members to the household and community, we do strongly encourage it. When players become a part of your lives it’s a more rewarding experience for everyone and you essentially grow a new member of your family. If players are very closed off and anti-social the team will work to encourage them to open up and make the efforts to be more present.
A: Our billets receive a monthly stipend of $600.00 which we have increased in the last two years to help with the rising price of groceries. The billets families also receive a season ticket for all the family members in the household. When the team hosts events our billets are always invited to attend, and we are always looking for new ways to grow our sense of community within the organization. The team is also exploring options with local businesses to increase the amount of perks our families receive.
A: The team is always seeking billets whether full time or part time. A part time family would include taking a player for main camp and exhibition season as well as when affiliate players get called up and are staying for a few days. IF you are interested in billeting we encourage you to reach out to the team using the contacts page and speak with us about your questions and concerns. We can also put you in touch with current billets who can be a great resource.
A: The team has a billet coordinator who acts as a liaison between the billets and the staff who can be reached out to at any time. Our coaching and management staff are also very approachable for any questions or concerns. Speaking with us remains confidential.
A: The team will work with you to assist in any way if you are planning or will be away for an extended period of time. We can temporarily relocate the player or help ensure they are fed and watered and abiding by the team rules if they are staying alone.
A: The Pontiacs have worked hard over the past many years to ensure we bring the right type of people and players into our organization. We require them to abide by team rules and your household rules. We are dealing with 16-20 year olds but they are here to develop and improve. Players here for the wrong reasons will not be tolerated. We encourage our players to become involved in your families and their team and they will spend time socializing with the group but must remain respectful of team and house rules.
