BONNYVILLE PONTIACS BILLET PROGRAM
The Bonnyville PONTIACS ?Billet Family? Program plays a major role in our team's success both on and off the ice. It takes special families to open up their homes and their hearts to our players and we take the utmost care to ensure our players are placed in environments that are conducive to care, understanding and safety. The Bonnyville PONTIACS are always looking for families in the Bonnyville and Lakeland area who are interested in opening their doors and give the team's players a ?home away from home? during our season.
Being directly involved in our billeting program for the past 8 years I can honestly say that it is second to none. Without the generosity of our PONTIAC Billet families our organization would be hard pressed to succeed. I have observed our Billet families open up their homes allowing our players to join their families and I have seen our Billets spend a great deal of time, energy, and dedication to ensure that our players are able to live comfortably to enable them to make the tremendous commitment that they do to achieve their goals.
These young men come into our Billets? lives at an early, impressionable age and leave as young men. Our players often become just like one of the family. They are away from their friends and family, so our billets become very important in their lives. The players arrive from all over North America in mid to late August and will be here until the end of the hockey season in early April or sometimes even longer to complete their school year.
Our coaching staff and our Director of Player Personnel works extremely hard at identifying young men with not only hockey talent, but solid moral and ethical values as well. For the most part, our players are good people who come from good families and we expect the players to be respectful and helpful in the presence of our Billet Home.
During the day the players are kept busy with practices, video sessions, off-ice skill development, team meetings, individual player meeting and conditioning. During the week, mornings can consist of work, school or team generated work-outs. Their evenings can consist of involvement in the community, games, homework or just enjoying some quite time alone, with their billet families or friends and teammates. Our players have an extremely structured and committed schedule. We have nine days off at Christmas and play 30 away games throughout the province of which 14 days are spent away in hotel rooms in different towns and cities which allows our Billets to have some personal time to their family life.
OUR BILLET FAMILIES
Our Billet Families provide our players with strong role model, parent-type figures and a supportive family environment that will make a significant difference in the lives of our players who have left their own families to pursue their goals and dreams.
Billeting can be a tremendous experience in which you can share in a young person?s goals and dreams and develop a lifelong connection with a player and his family from all around the province and North America. The rewards can be immeasurable. In fact, many families still keep in contact with their players as they move through the ranks of college and professional hockey.
Our billet families will receive remuneration in the amount of $400.00 per month per player and they will also receive 2 regular season tickets for home games and invitations to team events.
Tamara CARPENTER is the team's billeting coordinator who help us match each player's personality and backgrounds with our quality billet homes. You can contact Tamara at (780) 545-6210 or Assistant Coach T.J. MILLAR at (780) 826-2893, extension 2 for more information.
As with every year we would like to take this opportunity to express a huge ?THANK YOU!? to our amazing billet families! Our caring, generous families have provided a great ?home away from home? for our players and they are the MVP's of our organization making a positive impact for our organization.
