HIRING: Accepting applications for Head Coach position

The Bonnyville Junior “A” Pontiacs are a member of the Alberta Junior Hockey League entering their 31st season. The Pontiacs have a rich history in developing players that move on to the NCAA. The organization is seeking to fill the role of Head Coach for the 2022 -2023 season and beyond.

Responsibilities

Maintaining and enhancing the culture of the “Bonnyville Pontiacs” in the community of Bonnyville and in the hockey world
Be a strong presence in the community and a role model to younger players and coaches in the region
Work in partnership with hockey operations to maintain the alignment and goals of the program in both a short term and long - term view
Create and implement practice plans in communication with the other coaching staff to enhance players development and creativity
Have a developmental based approach to teaching and communicating with the players
Implement and execute a style of play based on the personnel available
Work in alignment with the Assistant Coach and Skills Coach to provide the resources to players in areas where they are required
Plan and execute hockey school programs
Team and individual player video
Assist in the recruitment process
Plan and organize off ice activities including team building
Take a lead role in the hiring of an Assistant Coach and his development
Assist the Associate General Managers in any related hockey and business tasks

Professional Qualifications and Personal Qualities

Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt teaching methods
Must be a forward thinker who is open to change and implementing new ideas and structure
Prior Head Coach experience is an asset but not required
Hockey Canada High Performance 1 Certification or equivalent
The ability to in-game adjust, with strong bench management and player utilization skills • Understanding of the college level game and how to prepare our players for that level
Value education and the growth of the people in our organization as people
