Olivier CHAREST Has Committed to Play for the SAIT TROJANS

The Bonnyville PONTIACS are extremely pleased to announce that Olivier CHAREST has committed to play for the SAIT Trojans of the ACAC for the 2016/17 season.

CHAREST, from Montreal, Quebec played 46 games for the PONTIACS in 2015/16 and had a record of 29 wins, 8 losses and 9 ties along with a goals against average of 2.39 and save percentage of .914 which was good enough for 5th over-all among AJHL goaltenders. Olivier also lead the AJHL in shut-outs with 6 and most games played with 46. In December of 2015 Olivier was named the Alberta Ford Dealers “Goaltender of the Week.”

Olivier was instrumental for the PONTIACS' record breaking season with 40 wins, .745 winning percentage, least number of losses and most points with 89.

“Olivier will be an asset at the at the ACAC level because of his above average ability to remain in the stance position throughout all of his movement. Olivier also does the little things well. Things like a strong ability to break up centering passes, tracking the puck, rebound control to the corners and he understands that he has to earn everything” says Head Coach and General Manager Rick SWAN. Olivier is an excellent person and contributed greatly to the PONTIACS both on and off the ice. He will be an asset to the SAIT Trojans program.

Olivier has a strong ability to play the game at the next level. Character is a staple of his DNA. His focus and his commitment to be ready and to ‘be a player’ are exceptional and the very best I have ever witnessed as a coach!

Olivier CHAREST is the 33rd player who played for the Bonnyville PONTIACS since 2014 to move on to college hockey (NCAA Division 1, NCAA – Division 3, C.I.S. and A.C.A.C.).
