The Bonnyville Pontiacs are excited to announce another acquisition before the start of the 2021-22 AJHL season.
Matteo Giampa (’03) is coming to Bonnyville by way of the Brooks Bandits in a deal for future considerations.
“Matteo was a player that we highly recruited,” said coach and general manager Rick Swan. “He’s a player that possesses high skill, high IQ, and an incredible work ethic that will translate into being a great identity player for the Bonnyville Pontiacs.”
The Virgil, Ontario native attended the Frederick Gunn Prep School in Washington, Connecticut last year, but did not play any league games.
In 19-20, Giampa attended The Frederick Gunn School Highlanders scoring 9 goals and 10 assists in 35 games played.
Giampa, a six-foot, 176-pound forward, was previously selected in the seventh round (142nd overall) by the London Knights in the 2019 Ontario Hockey League draft.
“Players with that skill and that the drive and that earn-it mentality, are people that come into our program and create a tremendous amount of success. And above anything else, he is also a tremendous human being who will fit into our community as well,” said Swan.
