PONTIACS Skate With C-School

C-School at the Centennial Centre gives students a chance to get out of the classic classroom setting and learn with “hands on experience” in a new, often exciting environment. Every week throughout the school year, elementary aged students participate in the C-School experience. A Grade 3 class from Duclos School recently took part in the weeklong C-School program, getting to use the Bonnyville Centennial Centre and its many features as learning opportunities, while also getting to have some fun on the climbing wall and in the Cenovus Arena for an hour of games and learning to skate, followed by a press conference between students and the players back in the classroom with the Jr. A Pontiacs. The students look forward to skating with the Pontiacs all week and they sure have some interesting questions lined up for the Pontiacs during their interviews.

Feedback provided is that “the Pontiacs are great with the kids. They seem to be having a lot of fun and they’re so easy to get along with.” First-year Pontiacs defenceman Tom Kohler said it is fun to be out on the ice with the kids. “It’s a blast out here, having the kids chase us around and hearing some of the jokes they’ve been telling us. It’s takes us back to our school days.” He said this is the first time he’s been part of a team that cares so much about the community it’s a part of. “I’ve never been part of a team that cares so much and wants to give back to the community like the Bonnyville PONTIACS. And at the end of the day, it’s rewarding for us to have a chance to give back and embrace the community.
