A.J. MACAULAY Commits to the NCAA Division 1 University of Alaska FAIRBANKS

The Bonnyville PONTIACS of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are thrilled to announce 2002-born defenceman A.J. MACAULAY has committed the University of Alaska Fairbanks (NCAA Division I).

MACAULAY played in 55 games with the PONTIACS in 2019/20, scoring 1G and 13 assists.

The Bonnyville, Alberta native played all his minor hockey in his hometown and with the Northern Alberta Xtreme in 2018/19 scoring 5 goals and 25 assists.

“Being around A.J. everyday in competitive situations on and off the ice and observing the habits and hockey IQ he has, in our opinion, makes him a slam dunk Division 1 player with transferrable skills to College. Coachable, a great teammate, an excellent work ethic and skater and a high hockey IQ describe A.J. The Nanooks are getting one heck of a player and human being with A.J. MACAULAY and he comes from an outstanding, supportive family,” says Head Coach Rick SWAN.

“I owe so much to my coaches, the Bonnyville PONTIACS and my family for this opportunity says MACAULAY. I choose Alaska Fairbanks because of the quality of their staff and the geographic of their school being similar to the Lakeland area and  I am honored to commit to such a great school and hockey program.”

The PONTIACS congratulate A.J. and the MACAULAY family on this achievement. A.J. MACAULAY becomes the 84th player since 2013-14 to commit to a college program.
