Training camp begins for 30th season

Main Camp begins today as the Bonnyville Pontiacs embark on their 30th season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Sixty players have descended from across the province, country, and continent in hopes of making the 2021-22 Bonnyville Pontiacs.

“The start of training camp is always an exciting time for our group,” said coach and general manager Rick Swan. “We are extremely grateful and fortunate to be back in a normal setting to begin the season, which is a special one for our franchise.”

Fitness testing and camp orientation is happening Thursday as on-ice practices and games begin on Friday.

The Pontiacs’ Futures Camp began Wednesday evening with practices and a Hockey Pathways presentation discussing the many routes a hockey player can take to get to the next level.

The 30th annual Milton Romanchuk Cup, the Bonnyville Pontiacs annual Light vs Dark inter-squad game, is Monday night at 7:00pm. This game is free to attend for everyone.

Training camp concludes on Tuesday morning after the second Milton Romanchuk Cup game.

The first exhibition game is Wednesday, September 1 at the RJ Lalonde Arena against the expansion Blackfalds Bulldogs.

The Pontiacs home opener is Friday, September 17 against the Lloydminster Bobcats. Season ticket packages are now available online here.
