The Bonnyville Pontiacs are thrilled to announce that another graduating player has committed to play at the next level.
Defenceman Josh Kroon is committing to play NCAA hockey for the Salve Regina Seahawks based in Newport, Rhode Island.
Becoming a Pontiac in 2019-20, Kroon played parts of two seasons with Bonnyville, and wore the “A” as the assistant captain during the interrupted 2020-21 AJHL season.
“Josh played like a beast for us,” said Head Coach and General Manager Rick Swan. “He was our number one guy in defensive situations and as a leader is not afraid to hold guys accountable. I would take him on my team any day.”
Kroon becomes the 96th Bonnyville Pontiacs collegiate commitment since 2013-14.
The hard-nosed defender played 61 total regular season games with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, scoring four goals and 15 assists.
Kroon was named the team’s top defenseman in 2019-20.
The 21-year-old native from Calgary joins teammates Easton Hesse and Jaden York as three veterans advancing to the NCAA this upcoming season.
The rearguard finishes his junior career having played 172 Alberta Junior Hockey League games, regular season and playoffs, over the course of four seasons.
Former Pontiac Cayden Kraus (’19) is also a Seahawk.

The Salve Regina Seahawks compete in the Commonwealth Coast Conference in NCAA Division III and are coached by Zech Klann.
