The Bonnyville Pontiacs are excited to announce Tyler Wamboldt has signed with the team for the upcoming 2025-2026 season.
"I would like to thank the Pontiacs organization for giving me this opportunity," said Tyler Wamboldt. "I would also like to thank my former coaches, my advisor James, my player development coach Joe, as well as my parents for supporting me as I continue to pursue my hockey dreams.
"I’m looking forward to inspiring the younger hockey players in Bonnyville and showing them what it means to be a Pontiac. I would also like to let the fans know that I'm fluent in French and love to help out around the community whenever I can."
Wamboldt is currently listed with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and is coming off a strong second season in the MU18HL. Playing for the U18 AAA Norman Northstars last season, the 5'8, 154lbs forward produced 30 goals and 37 assists for a total of 67 points in just 45 games played.
"Tyler is a type of player that is hard to find now," said Pontiacs general manager Chad Nelson. "Tyler has a fierce work ethic and a pest mentality. Although he's not the biggest player, there is no corner or puck battle that Tyler won’t go into expecting to win.
"His constant motor and persistence is something we lacked here this past season, so we are excited to inject Tyler into our lineup and watch him grow and develop under coach Mercier and the staff. Tyler is a listed prospect with the Calgary Hitmen and will be at their Main Camp come the fall as well."
A phrase the 17 year-old Wamboldt likes to live by is, “Every day is a new day to get better." Furthermore, Wamboldt noted he's most excited about being back on the ice and getting to work with the team and coaching staff.
"The Pontiacs are the right fit for me because I got to know the organization and community very well when I went out to skate with the team for two weeks in March," said Wamboldt. "The community is very similar to mine in northern Manitoba which made it feel just like home.
"The team and coaching staff hold you to a high standard on and off the ice and with how the team competes in the league every year, I am excited to join the Pontiacs and ready to make a difference. Pontiac fans can expect a dynamic, high speed, skilled forward, who can put the puck in the net and isn’t afraid to get in people’s faces with some grit and tenacity."
The Bonnyville Pontiacs are excited to welcome Tyler into the organization.
