Bonnyville Pontiacs Defensemen Jack Budd now joins fellow Pontiacs Matteo Giampa and Trey Funk with his commitment to Canisius College as of November 25th, 2022.
Associate General Manager Neil Langridge had this to say; “We are very excited to announce that Jack has committed to Canisius! Jack becomes the third Pontiac on our roster bound for the Griffins. Since Jack has joined us, he has been nothing but a pro. He comes to work every day to get better on and off the ice. We are very excited for Jack as he becomes the 8th player on this year’s roster to commit to the NCAA Division I level”.
When asked about his choice to commit, Budd stated “Honestly, I have heard nothing but the best from Matteo {Giampa} and Trey {Funk} who have already committed there. Max {Mobely} has also been a great recruiter and coach, so it made me really excited for the future. It’s a place where I feel I will be able to play and earn my ice time. It’s a great school in Buffalo and I’m just looking forward to the experience and continuing my development”.
The 6’2ft 190lbs defenseman is not only the 8th Division I Committed player on the Pontiacs roster, but also the 4th committed defenseman on the team, and the 4th Pontiac player to commit to Division I hockey this season.
Budd was acquired from the Grand Prairie Storm earlier this year and posted 8 points in 16 games with the Storm before moving on to the Pontiacs. Since joining the Pontiacs, the 03 born defenseman has produced 5 goals and 7 assists for 12 points in 11 games played with the Pontiacs thus far.
When asked about the trade and now his commitment to Canisius, Budd noted “While being traded is never fun, I think that moving to the Pontiacs was something I really needed at the time. Since coming here, Coach Mario {Pouliot} and Caddy {Connor Cadaret} have helped me gain the tools needed to showcase my game and it’s been a huge factor why I got this offer from Canisius.”
The Canisius College Griffins are a Division I hockey team located in Buffalo, NY and plays in the AHA Conference.
The Pontiacs next game is November 26th against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in Bonnyville at 7:00pm. This will be Jack Budd’s first official game as a committed Division I player.
