From front till volunteer to behind the lens, Emma Jonker joins the Bonnyville Pontiacs as the organization’s new multimedia & photography coordinator for the 2025-2026 season.
Born in Calgary and raised in Bonnyville, Jonker has been a volunteer with the Pontiacs organization since 2021.
“I’m really excited to keep learning and growing in photography and media, but also to show what I can bring to the table for the team, fans, parents, and billets,” said Emma Jonker. “Being able to capture the season as it unfolds, document the culture, and help people feel more connected to the team is something I’m really proud to be part of.”
Jonker’s main task will be to support the team’s effort to improve the consistency and quality of the Pontiacs social media experience.
“I bring creative media and photography experience that helps keep team supporters informed about the team and I’m here to elevate how they connect with the organization,” said Jonker.
“The Pontiacs gave me an opportunity to be part of something bigger, to contribute in a creative way, and to continue developing my skills in a setting that will benefit both the team now and my future career down the road.”
Jonker joined the Pontiacs as one of the team photographers and an athletic therapist intern in the 2024-2025 season, while also finishing her last year at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, AB.
“The Pontiacs are getting someone who’s passionate about hockey storytelling, capturing the energy, emotion, and hard work through photography,” said Jonker. “It’s something I am truly passionate about.
“Right from the start, it was clear that this year’s staff and organization value professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of community. It’s not just about the game; it’s about the culture around it.”
Jonker will be the first person ever to hold the title of multimedia & photography coordinator within the Pontiacs organization.
“I’d like to thank the Pontiacs for trusting me with this role and giving me the chance to be part of such a passionate and dedicated team,” said Jonker. “Also, big thank-you to my mom for helping me get started on my photography journey and to Billie Barrett as well as Erica Perreaux for their support.
“Billie invited me to the 2025 Centennial Cup, an experience that helped me grow and develop my skills that I’m excited to bring to the Pontiacs. As for Erica, she has been an incredible mentor, friend, and an inspiring photographer to look up to.”
The Pontiacs next home game will be on October 17th for the first ever Lakeland Credit Union Hockey Kid Night at 7:00pm. The game will feature special intermission games, contests, giveaways and more.
