Matteo Giampa commits to Canisius College Golden Griffins

The Bonnyville Pontiacs are thrilled to announce the team’s second NCAA commitment this week.

Following Alex Danis’ commitment to the Hamilton College Continentals (NCAA Division III), the Pontiacs are extremely happy to report that Pontiac forward Matteo Giampa has committed to the NCAA Division I Canisius College Golden Griffins in Buffalo, New York.

The rookie forward in Giampa (’03) has registered 16 goals and 25 assists in 51 games with the Pontiacs so far this season.

“It feels great,” said Giampa on receiving the commitment. “I’m just excited for the opportunity and honoured that they would consider me as one of those top players. I’m just excited and ready to get things going. I want to thank the Bonnyville Pontiacs for helping me get to this point.”

Matteo Giampa becomes the 104th Pontiac player committed to play college hockey since the 2013/14 season. Giampa becomes the 9th current player to receive an NCAA commitment on this year’s roster.

“Matteo has all the abilities to become a great NCAA Division I player and it is great to see Matteo rewarded for his hard work both on and off the ice,” said Head Coach and General Manager Rick Swan.

“Coach Large and his staff are getting a total gem in Matteo with a very high ceiling. He will become an instant success to the Golden Griffins program and school. He has a high sense of athletic ability with professionalism both on-and-off the ice and his commitment to Canisius is so well-deserved because of the work that he puts in every day to improving himself. Matteo is an outstanding character individual and person who comes from a great, supportive family.”

The Golden Griffins play out of the Lecom Harborcenter which is the official practice facility of the Buffalo Sabres. The Bonnyville Pontiacs are thrilled to see the hard work of Matteo Giampa pay off and see him advance to the next level.
