Pontiacs acquire defenceman Matthew Roy

BONNYVILLE, AB (October 13) — The Bonnyville Pontiacs are excited to announce the acquisition of defenceman Matthew Roy from the Surrey Eagles in exchange for future considerations.

The 17-year-old defenceman (Dec. 4, 2003) went to the St. Andrews College Prep School and played parts of three seasons for the club. In 2019-20, Roy played 46 total games, earning one goal and 21 assists during that year.

Roy’s last year of U16AAA with the York Simcoe Express U16’s, he put up 13 points in 34 games.

“Matt Roy is a high character, strong skating defenseman that has exceptional positional awareness,” said coach and general manager Rick Swan.

“He will be an impact Junior A player and is a talented NCAA prospect. Coming from a high culture program at St. Andrews under Coach Manning we know that Matt will make our team better on and off the ice and instantly enhances the depth of our back end.”

The Ottawa, Ontario native adds to a deep group of defenders for the Pontiacs.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs (5-3-1) return to action Wednesday, October 13 and host the Spruce Grove Saints (7-2-1) at 7:00pm.

The Pontiacs are home this Saturday as well to play the Drayton Valley Thunder (7-1-2).
